THE BLUEVIEW
President: Laura Conway
Dear
Friends,
It is hard to believe
that summer has gone by and school has reopened. Hopefully, you were
able to take advantage of the well deserved and beautiful weather.
But with fall almost upon us, the beginning of a new year for the Milton
Junior Woman's Club is here! Our first business meeting was
held on Tuesday, September 13th at my home. Thank you to all who
attended; you contributed to the success of the meeting. And a special
thank you to the Home Life committee who were recently called upon
to raise funds for the Red Cross to benefit the victims of Hurricaine
Katrina. They creatively have risen to the challenge with an Ice Cream
Social to be held on Saturday, September 24th. Please consider
giving of your time for this worthy event!
Thank you to Christine Kelly for
opening her home this August for a "pre-season" brainstorming
session and to all those board members who participated. I was
impressed by your ideas, enthusiasm, and commitment to the club.
One area which gained some attention was our wish to tap into the
resources that exist within our club. Are you a financial planner who
could educate us on investing, a social worker who could educate us on child
rearing, a specialist who could help us with developmental concerns we have for
our children, or an interior decorator who can help us solve decorating
disasters? Whatever your talent, if you would be interested in
offering your services to the club in the form of a program, please do
so!
Regretfully, with all of this
planning, a few changes to the club have occurred. As many of you may now
know, Tricia Sullivan has resigned. I am sorry for her
departure but knowing how difficult a choice it was, understand and
respect her decision. I, therefore, will be leading the club as
your president, but hopefully, with help. I am actively trying
to convince someone (or two) to join me in a vice presidential
role to lighten the load. I would also like to offer my
appreciation for those of you who have come forward to offer
your support, words cannot express my gratitude!
For this coming year, I would
challenge everyone to consider becoming more involved.
Join a committee as a volunteer, attend a business meeting, open your home
for an event, or offer your professional expertise for a program this
year! With community service projects such as the Milton Food
Pantry and Cradles to Crayons, to social events such as the
appetizer derby or wine tasting, to programs such as the holiday craft
project, to book club, knitting, playgroup at Andrew's Park or pre-school
story hour, the opportunities are endless! And with your
involvement, I know we can have a very successful year!
Opening dinner will take place on Thursday,
September 22nd at Alba's Bar and Grill in Quincy. I look forward to
seeing all who responded to celebrate the start of the 2005-2006 club
year.
Again, I look forward
to being president this year and welcome any ideas or suggestions you may
wish to share.
Sincerely,
Laura

The
Homelife committee's goal is to assist the community through volunteerism
and donations/drives. We will be supporting multiple causes throughout this
year including Disaster Relief, The Milton Food Pantry, Council on Aging,
Cradles to Crayons, Project Linus, Children's Hospital, The Italian Home for
Children, and Milton Residents' Fund. We have a special focus on woman and
children in our community and the greater Boston area. This year we will
be attempting to heavily involve children of the club in our volunteer efforts.
We also support club members by coordinating meals if there is a family crisis
or a new baby. We welcome ideas and participation. Feel free to
contact any of our committee members if you want to become involved or if you
have any any questions.
Please join us Saturday, September
24 from 1-4pm at Cunningham Hall for an ICE CREAM SOCIAL to benefit the
Hurricane Katrina victims. All proceeds
will benefit the Red Cross. Ice Cream has been donated by Radio Coffee
House, Dairy Freeze and The Common Market. This event is open to the town
so tell all your friends and family!!!!!!!!!!!WE NEED YOUR HELP! We are in need
of people to pass out flyers around town and to volunteer on the day of
the event. We invite children of the club to participate. They can greet
people, make posters, pass out flyers, etc. They too, can make
a difference during this national tragedy. Please contact Meg or
Liz to help out.
We will be kicking off our food
drive for the Milton Food Pantry in October and continue throughout
November. Donations can be brought to Homelife Committee homes or all
MJWC events. If your child would like to create a dropsite for the food
drive and collect around the neighborhood, it would be terrific! Please contact
Meg to coordinate. We have a tentative date of November 26 to
volunteer at the Food Pantry for two to three hours. Further details on the
drive and the volunteer morning will appear in October's Blueview.
Kimberly Zieselman will be
coordinating meals for those members who have had a baby
or a family emergency. Please contact Kimberly if you are
interested in receiving or assisting with cooking meals.
