THE BLUEVIEW
President: Eve Nightingale
Dear Friends,
To begin I
would like to first welcome all new members to the MJWC. It was
exciting to see so many new faces at the New Member Wine and Cheese and
we look forward to seeing you at many of the upcoming
events. Special thanks to all standing members who
attended and to the Membership Committee for a really fun evening organized by
Sheila Leddy, Eileen Cakouros, Ellen Mann and Rachel Schewe.
As in all our monthly
updates we need to attend to some business. I would like to
gently remind you that your dues are now past due. Your dues will need to
be paid prior to attending any event, as our insurance only covers “dues
paying” members. If you are not sure of your status, please contact
Sheila Argyles.
October was a busy
month for programs. The Trunk Show was
well attended and fabulous by all accounts and we appreciate
all the hard work Arian Foster, and Susan Collins, Amy Chrisom and
Cristine Tomsen put into organizing the vendors and working with
Fitness Unlimited on the venue. Also, our first book club and sewing club
meetings took place this past month. Busy holidays are ahead however we
also have a few items on the calendar. Please visit www.miltonjuniorwomansclub.com to
stay up to date on our calendar of events.
Congratulations to
our members who have recently had babies. Rachel Schewe had a baby girl
Gretel, Jessica Cherry had twins Abigail and Stephen, and Mary Beth Grant had a
baby boy, Luke. The club will be buying books on their behalf at the main
branch of the Milton Library. The list of books dedicated to last
year’s newborns is included in this newsletter. The book plates will be
affixed with each child’s name. This is a fun program to commemorate the
babies born to members. Be sure to keep us posted if you hear of any new
babies.
The Women’s Club Las
Vegas Night posted a profit of $400. I would like to thank all members,
their husbands and family members who assisted to make this event a
success. These funds go to the overhead of the Milton Women's Club
building. Our continued support of the Women’s Club allows us the
opportunity to host events at the Club House for a significant discount.
This discount allows more of our funds to go to the grants that our community
benefits from rather than being absorbed by social events. A more formal
description of our clubs’ relationships will be described in a later
posting.
The date for the
Holiday Party is set for December 5th, 7:30 at the Women’s
Club House. This event will be open to all members without a
waitlist. A formal invitation will be sent out imminently. RSVP’s
will be accepted by, myself and Jennifer Wood.
Another date to keep
on your radar is February 23rd. A vote was taken at the
last business meeting to host the Toe Jam Puppets as our February vacation
fundraiser. www.toejampuppets.com. This also means that we will be looking for
volunteers to assist in various roles. Setting up,
collecting admission and helping out with the bake sale are a few of the
jobs to name a few. If you can help out, please contact Elaine Davis.
This coming weekend
is the Celebration for Education. As members, you should be proud that
the MJWC has donated $250 to the Monster Dash and $500 to the Foundation.
Also, Diana Mobarak has put together a “Tea Party Birthday” basket in the name
of our club for the silent auction. This birthday will include the use of
the Women’s Club House, as well as all the fixings for the party. I would
also like to acknowledge the hard work of so many members who are actively
involved in this event.
Finally, one of
our members has given an idea for a fall fund raiser that I think will be
a lot of fun. Hold on to your costumes! We are planning
a Costume Swap Fund Raiser. While
the details are still being worked out, we are asking you to keep
your costumes in an accessible place so that you may donate them for this
drive. The general idea is to sell donated costumes and dress up
items ahead of Halloween in '07.
In closing, I hope
that you all have a great Thanksgiving. I am thankful for so many things,
not the least of which is my enjoyment of friends that I have in the
club.
Sincerely,
Eve

Please Help Provide a Less Fortunate Milton
Kid with a Gift this
MJWC is
partnering with the Milton Residents
Fund to provide holiday gifts for needy children living in
Any interested member will be given the age and gender of a child in need and asked to purchase him/her a gift card and/or an age appropriate gift (suggested gift amount is $25, but it is up to each donor to decide.) Members may also want to consider splitting the cost of sponsoring a child, whatever you can do to help will be much appreciated!!
Gift Cards and/or other gifts should be wrapped and tagged with the child’s anonymous family number (which you will be given when volunteer). Gifts are due by December 10th, and may either be dropped at Kimberly’s or brought to the MJWC holiday party on December 5th.
Some suggested Gift Card Ideas: Macy’s, Target, Old Navy, Borders, AMC Movies.
HINT: The North Quincy Stop and Shop sells all of the above store brand gift cards (and more!) in various $ amounts, making it simple to pick up while doing your regular grocery shopping!
Please Contact
Kimberly Zieselman to be assigned a
child.
