A Letter from the President

Dear Friends,

I honestly do not know where the past six weeks have gone.  And as of a few days ago was thinking how easy this winter has been.  But with the snowstorm of this past weekend comes the chance to go sledding or at least build a great snowman.  And with February here, we are officially at the half point of our year!!  I hope if you haven't had an opportunity to join us in the first half, you will consider coming to one of our upcoming events............there are still many chances to get involved!!

Our Business Meeting was graciously hosted by Brett Dickens.  Thanks to all who turned out to discuss the potential Community Grant recipients.  We appreciate everyone's feedback.  A special thanks to Sheila Varela and Eileen Walsh for compiling all the applications and thoughtfully making their recommendations which are as follows:  Milton Young Musician's Festival - $500; Milton Council On Aging - $1000; Blue Hils Trailside Museum - $500; Milton Outdoor Classrooms - $500; Milton Food Pantry - $1000; Milton Animal League - $500; Milton Early Childhood Alliance - $1500; Milton Park and Recreation, Gym Buddies - $1000; Friends of the Milton Public Library - $1500; and the Neponset River Watershed Association - $375.   If you would like to further discuss the recommendations, feel free to contact me.   Also, thanks to Suzanne Westhues, a new member, who attended our meeting and has jumped right in on the Scholarship Committee and who would like to get the Playgroup back up and running.  Look for more information soon!!

Additionally, we discussed two fund raisers for the spring.  A vote was taken and we have decided on a child's entertainer for the April vacation.  Please contact me if you would like to assist.   And in May, we will be hosting a Fashion Show in cooperation with both the Woman's Club and PM Club.  We are looking for potential models and those who would like to work behind the scenes. We also are looking for suggestions for theme baskets to be raffled that day.

January's program night with Dr. Stephanie Perry from the Weymouth Club provided us with new information and interesting discussions about Chiropractic, nutrition, and ways to keep ourselves looking vivacious!!!  Thanks to Ariane Foster and Susan Collins for planning this event and to Ariane for hosting.

This past weekend, two great events occurred.  Homelife in conjunction with the Milton Art Museum helped our children make Valentine Day Cards for patient's at Children's Hospital.  What great little artists we have in our group.  They did a fabulous job.  Thank you to Beth Callahan and Meg Kaster for coordinating.   Then Food and Wine hosted the Wine Tasting/Appetizer Derby.  Thanks to Wendy Kelley for opening her home for this event and to Reni Cadigan and Erin Donahoe for planning and pouring!!  Also, congratulations to Tammy Vyas, Nancy Broderick, and Amy Chrisom and taking first, second and third places respectively in the the Appetizer Derby.  The husbands thought your cooking was great!

With February vacation almost upon us, there is one more opportunity to get out for a night this month.....Book Club is meeting  February 15th to discuss The Mermaid Chair.  Newcomers are always welcome!  Looking ahead, March will bring A Makeover Night, a volunteer opportunity at Cradles to Crayons, a new member night, book club, and knitting.

The Road Race Committee is starting to kick into high gear.  Expect to receive a phone call (if you haven't already) to find out what you can do.  Our ability to make Community Grant Donations is completely dependent upon the success of the Milton Road Race.  So, get ready to pitch in for a great event and to benefit our wonderful community!!!!!

Congratulations to Jennifer and Art McNulty on the birth of their first child, Aidan Joseph, who was born on January 14, 2006.

Yours truly,

Laura
