A Letter from the Co-Presidents

Hello Everyone,

September is here and we are left to wonder, “Where did the summer go?”  Hopefully, you are all relaxed, refreshed and rejuvenated.  Phew, just in time for the start of another new year for the Milton Junior Woman’s Club.  Are you ready?  We are!  We are truly excited to be able to support such a wonderful town and work with such an amazing group of woman.

Our first business meeting was Tuesday, September 4th at the home of Elaine Davis.  We want to thank everyone that could make it and for those of you that could not make it, you were missed.  The meeting was really great. The enthusiasm was infectious.  We were all serious about our purpose, but we also laughed A LOT.  It was a great team effort and we hope it will set the tone for the coming year.

The coming year looks really promising. All of the committees are set and ready to go.  We encourage all of you to bring your talents to which ever committee suits you.  There is something for everyone and all are welcome.  There is Community Service, Scholarship, Food and Wine and Programs to name a few.  Not to mention, our ever important, Road Race Committee.  Road Race is our largest fundraiser of the year.  There is a huge need for support, not only the day of the race, but for all the preparation leading up to the event.  It doesn’t have to be a large chunk of time.  Any support you can give will certainly be appreciated.

At our August brainstorming meeting, we gave a lot of thought to other fundraisings possibilities.  What came out of the brainstorming meeting was a brand new committee.  We are proud to announce that we are starting the Fundraising Steering Committee, chaired by our vice-presidents, Amy Masferrer and Mary Beth Grant.  This committee will be involved in looking at new fundraising opportunities, which we as a club can then execute.   We agreed at the meeting that, as a group, the MJWC has extraordinary potential to support Milton and there are many ways in which we can do it.  This committee will be instrumental in looking into these possibilities.  If you are interested in being a part of this new committee, please contact Amy: amy@masferrerlaw.com or Mary Beth: mbhg@comcast.net.

Another exciting idea to come out of the brainstorming meeting was to focus on our website to make it more “user friendly.”  Betsy Crowley and Susannah Quiron are going to be working out the details for that in the coming weeks and we will be looking forward to filling you in once we can present to you as a group.

Please make a note, this year we will be having our business meetings every other month instead of every month.  However, we will continue to send out the newsletter on a monthly basis to be sure everyone has the most current information.  It is our hope that once we make our website more user friendly, it will be the source for the most current information.  For now, the newsletter still keeps us connected and that is most important. Remember, if you do have some information that you would like to appear in the newsletter, please email  Annmarie Loughnane at amlough@verizon.net or Maureen Skillin at mskillin@verizon.net.

Our final piece of business….  The MJWC will be participating in the Celebrate Milton event slated for Sunday, September 30th.  The event will take place from12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.  We will have our own table at the event.  We will be reaching out to the community to let them know about us and working to attract new members.  If you might be able to volunteer at the table for an hour or so that day, please contact Elaine Davis or Jennifer Wood for more details.

Finally, we would like to remind you all about the MJWC Opening Cocktail Party to be held at Granite Links on Thursday, September 27th starting at 7:30 pm.  As this event is not a formal dinner, feel free to come by at your convenience.  You should have received an invitation by email or by regular mail. It will be a wonderful time to catch up and socialize. Hope to see you there.

Thank you for letting us share in this very exciting new year.  Feel free to give us advice and suggestions.  We are alright with constructive criticism, as well.  Please just be gentle.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Wood and Elaine Davis

Please join us on Thursday, October 18th at 7:30 p.m. at the Milton Woman's Clubhouse located at 90 Reedsdale Road to welcome potential new members.  We encourage all new and "seasoned" members to attend and bring a friend or neighbor to introduce her to the MJWC, and all the exciting new programs and events planned for this year!

Please find attached last year's MJWC directory.  We encourage all members to e-mail Tara Curry with any changes or additions to their contact information such as home or e-mail address, home or work number, spouse's name and children including the year of their births so that we do not need to change ages every year.  Please do not hesitate to contact Tara with spelling errors or omissions as well, or if you do not plan on joining the MJWC this year.  An updated MJWC Directory will be distributed in early winter.

Kindly forward your annual dues of $40 to the MJWC P.O Box 344, or drop a check off at any MJWC function (such as the New Members Cocktail Party detailed above) on or before November 1, 2007.  Please note that new members who joined after March 1, 2007 and paid their dues are not required to pay dues this year.  Thank you!

Pre-School Story Hour

Amy Delaney

Tricia Heelen

Meg Kaster

Plans for the fall session of the story hour are underway.  The tentative dates for the program are October 11-November 15 (6 week session).  Our plan is to meet each Thursday morning from 9:30-10:30 am.   We are awaiting final confirmation for these dates from the Church of Our Saviour (11 Babcock St), which is where we typically have held the program.  The program is open to children ages 3-5 years of age, and is a drop off session.  The program is open to any Milton town resident.

Once the dates have been confirmed, we will send out by e-mail all the information regarding registration.  We will most likely start taking registrations the last week in September.  Any MJWC member wishing to register their child for the program will be asked to volunteer approximately one hour of their time in some capacity.  This can be helping out with the “prep” night to prepare the materials for the 6 week session, or by staying one morning to be an extra set of hands with the program, or simply sitting in the play room being a “door guard”!  We will ask for your availability when you register your child.

We are looking forward to another fun fall session with the children.  Story hour is truly enjoyed by our children.  We hope you will join us!
