Hello Everyone,
Okay, October seems like a blur. What an exciting month! The Fundraising Committee made Town Hall look like something out of Martha Stewart Magazine. Programs repeated it the following week and as luck would have it, had a gorgeous day to take Family Photos. Membership created an elegant social event at the Woman’s Club House, for the New Members Social and Community Service made admirable collections for several different Fall Drives (which included DOVE, Milton Food Pantry and Cradles to Crayons). Never let it be said that anyone sits around in this group. We are so thankful and impressed by the level of support and communication that we have in our group. It makes our job look easy. We appreciate the connection we have with you and we are truly grateful for all you do. We just ask you all to do us a favor and don’t burn yourselves out! We are here to help.
October also gave occasion for many of our members to take advantage of Book Club, Knitting Club, Preschool Story Hour and a hugely successful Road Race Potluck. There are some really substantial and rewarding projects going on right now. We encourage everyone to come out and try something new in the coming months. We love the camaraderie, so be spontaneous and drop in where you can.
Our November meeting was something else. We had a lot to cover, but we got it all done somehow. We wanted to make sure you have some of the highlights:
With all of that incredible news comes November! The Holiday Spirit is flying already! Programs had their Toy Box event Sunday night. It was an amazing kick off to the season and we have the receipts to prove it! This is a fabulous event with an overwhelming response. We apologize for not being able to accommodate everyone who wanted to attend. Thanks to Julie Ritchie, Programs, and all of the support staff for being so organized and helpful. You really outdid yourselves!
Hey, don’t look now, but Tuesday night 11/13, is the Vendor and Appetizer night! Just think, more ways to get moving on the shopping. The club is really keeping us on schedule to have all of our shopping done early. It works for us. We need people to help us focus sometimes!
Please take a moment to look at the calendar and the committee information. We would love to connect with you soon. We wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving for you and your family. Let us know when there are things we need to know about. We look forward to spending time with you during the Holiday Season. Let the chaos begin….
Best wishes,
Elaine and Jennifer

Tuesday,
June 10, 2008, is the Road Race, our largest fundraiser of the year. We
are very excited about getting started this year, and we have some really great
ideas about how to support everyone¹s busy schedules.
I
would like to thank Elaine Davis for opening her house to the brainstorming
meeting. Our immediate and initial focus is on sponsorship. We will
be asking for members to contact sponsors from previous years starting in
January. We will need many members to make this personal contact
efficient. I would like to ask all members to look around at all people
within their families and business circles. There are so many businesses
out there that would benefit from exposure in this exciting event. The
best way to get these businesses involved is through a personal connection.
In particular, we are looking for a business to be the presenting
sponsor. We are also looking for families/businesses to sponsor water
tables and purchase mile markers. More details will follow and each
member making contact with businesses will be given a script and detailed
information as to what sponsorship money will gain for the business.
It
is our hope; you can let us know, by
November 30th, what you would like to do to support this
event. Volunteering for this event is our only commitment as members of
the MJWC. It is well respected throughout the
The
next road race meeting will be November 28th, 7:30 PM at Eve’s
house,
Each year, the MJWC hosts the Annual Milton Road Race. This year, the
31st Annual Road Race will be held on Tuesday, June 10th, 2007. The
proceeds help support club initiatives, including funding community grants and
scholarships. The road race is an exciting event and a great way for members to
become more involved in the club. We
typically have one meeting per month and would appreciate a two-year
commitment. Please contact Eve Nightingale for more information.
Chair: Eve Nightingale
COMMUNICATIONS AND PROMOTIONS
Coordinate all written communications PR and promotion of the road
race. This includes the editing of solicitation letter and existing
fliers; the placement of all ads, photos, and articles in local and regional
papers as well as different running publications prior to the race; and
communication of race results.
SPONSORS
Develop and manage a sponsor contact list, comprised of previous
sponsors and potential new corporate/business sponsors; coordinate sponsor
mailings; make follow-up telephone calls and visits to potential sponsors. This is a great way to be involved from home,
in advance of the road race.
NUTS AND BOLTS
Work within the community to solicit vendors for donations for race day,
including food/water, kid’s activities, DJ, etc. On day of race, coordinate volunteers who
partake in the following: help vendors with set-up at race start/finish,
oversee food, water and cups, water stations, medals and laurel wreaths, chutes
and splits, mile markers and clean up.
T-SHIRTS AND RACE BAGS
Manage all elements associated with road race t-shirts, including the
compilation of sponsor names and logos at print deadline; buy, design and
coordinate the hanging of road race banners; organize race bag stuffing and
distribution.
REGISTRATIONS AND APPLICATIONS
Manage all registrations on day of race as well as on Sunday prior to
event. Order race numbers and coordinate race number distribution to all
race entrants; manage tracking of applications and fees, and communication of
entrant information to Spitler. This is a great way to participate on
race day.
CHILDREN’S FUN
Organize and manage kid’s fun run and activities. On day of race, direct
volunteers who work the fun run and kid’s activities.

A huge thanks to all who contributed to last month’s drive to benefit the DOVE domestic violence organization! We were able to fill up the whole back of Lori’s minivan with items for the shelter. We gave many items such as: new clothing, diapers, and cleaning supplies, as well as a child’s table and chairs. The employees at DOVE were thrilled and we as a committee applaud your generosity! Way to go!
FALL
Last month we kicked off our fall food drive to benefit the
Milton Community Food Pantry. The food pantry is in need of decaf or
instant coffee, hot/cold cereals, canned fruit, canned peas, baked beans,
peanut butter, jelly and any kind of snacks. Donations are gladly accepted
at the homes of Jane Busconi 60 Hoy Terrace, Audrey Gavin 34 Russell
Also, if your children would like to create a “neighborhood drop site”, there is a flier attached that they can circulate. Last year we had approximately 10 families participate. The children really felt involved in a wonderful cause and had a lot of fun too! Please contact Meg Kaster if you have or would like to set up a drop site so she can coordinate with you.
Big thanks to Meg for opening up her beautiful home to members for the coffee hour on October 24. It was a big success to say the least. We enjoyed each other’s company over a cup of coffee and collected many items for the Food Pantry. That morning we were joined by Pat Brawley Morise of the Food Pantry who explained just how much they appreciate all of our help. Thanks to all who came and donated at this event!
We will be volunteering at the food pantry for a holiday
bag stuffing on Friday December 7 at 3:30.
If you are interested in helping out, please contact Meg Kaster at cmkaster@comcast.net as space is
limited. This is another wonderful way to involve your kids in the holiday
spirit of giving!

We have been asked to once again provide gift cards for those kids on their list ages 13-16 years old. Please help us reach our goal of providing each young teen on the Fund’s list with a gift card again this year!
Any interested member will be given the age and gender of a child (or several children) in need and asked to purchase him/her a gift card (suggested gift amount is $25, but it is up to each donor to decide.) Whatever you can do to help will be much appreciated!!
Gift Cards should be wrapped and tagged with the child’s
gender, age and anonymous family number (which you will be given when you
volunteer). Feel free to add candy or
other small items to your gift package if you like. Gifts
are due by December 12th, and
may either be dropped at Kimberly
Zieselman's house at
Some suggested Gift Card Ideas: Macy’s, Target, Old Navy, Borders, and AMC Movies.

Please
