Hello Everyone,
Hooray! Spring is pretty much here, just a few days away. Hallelujah! The weather might still feel a bit chilly, but isn't it great to have daylight savings time again? Did anyone else get her kids to school late this morning...? Time to start to think about diet, clothes, yard sales, kid's outdoor activities, not to mention, there are so many great events coming up for the Club.
SAVE THE DATE... We have a huge celebration coming up! This year is the 110th Anniversary of the Milton Woman's Club and the 75th anniversary of our humble beginnings as the Milton Junior Woman's Club. Please mark your calendars for Sunday April 27th for 2:00 - 4:00 pm. All of the clubs (including the PM Club) will be commemorating this event with an afternoon Tea with everyone bringing a small plate or desert to share.
We will keep you updated on the specifics, but we ask that you please try to attend this event. We are no longer a part of the Milton Woman's Club, but they really want to include us in this celebration. We will be inviting important town administrators, members of the press and members of the National General Federation of Woman's Clubs (GFWC). We ask you to participate, not only because of the celebration of the MJWC, but also because the Milton Woman's Club is currently negotiating with a cultural arts group to take over operations of the Woman's Club House. As part of the negotiation, it is their wish to ensure that the PM Club and the MJWC will continue to have access to the building for fundraisers and events. As you can well imagine, this is a very generous consideration.
Speaking of fundraisers, the Toe Jam Puppet Band "rocked the house" for the second year in a row playing to a SOLD OUT crowd! We made about $1,600 and the kids had a blast. Those guys are awesome. Thanks to everyone that helped, baked and brought water. So amazing!
Speaking of amazing, thanks to the Grants Committee for all the hard work on organizing and awarding the grants for this year. Your thoughtful review of the applications is so appreciated by all of us. Thanks also to the Board for all the careful consideration of the proposal at the March meeting. It gives us a good feeling to know that there are so many wonderful people that really want to make a different for our town. I am sure the groups receiving the grants will be eternally grateful. For more details, please see the Grants Committee report within this newsletter.
We have many events coming up in March. Food and Wine has an event tomorrow night, 3/11, "Let's Dish." If anyone is interested in going to prepare some meals for their family and sipping some wine, please contact Lisa Viola a call 617-696-7103.
Their next event will be on Saturday, 3/29. They will be hosting a Beer Tasting Event at the Woman's Club House. They are proud to announce that Sam Adams will be presenting their beer selections that night so keep that in mind. They will only be able to have 50 people at the event so don't wait too long to sign up for that once they make the announcement.
Also in March, Thursday, 3/27 to be exact, the Membership Committee will be having a New Members Social Bowling and Cocktail event at Boston Bowl. If you want to get to know a few more people a little better, come on down! It will be a great opportunity to relax, have a cocktail and show off you bowling skills (Can you have skills in bowling? Have you ever seen a pre-schooler bowl? It has to be luck.).
Before we write a dissertation, please remember that the Community Service Committee is still collecting over the next month or so for Rosie's Place and The Milton Residents Fund. They will also be celebrating on St. Patrick's Day on Friday, 3/14, with the C.O.A. Any members interested in bringing their little ones to socialize, please contact Jeanine Reardon at 617-698-6194 for more information.
Programs is having a psychic come on April 3rd to solve all of our problems. Be sure to make a note of that. When this event was mentioned at the Board meeting, everyone said, "Ooooo!" We are quite sure you will able to find out: 1) when you will meet the right person, 2) how many children you will have and 3) where you will settle down. If you won't be able to attend this event, call us and we will be glad to give you those answers. Be sure to sign up early. It is definitely going to be fun!
Lastly, the first "After Work Social" in February was a total success. We had an awesome time! The bar was cool, the drinks were tasty and the girls behind the bar were not exactly rocket scientists, so it made us all feel quite chic. Good music and good people watching make it clear to us that this event cannot go away anytime soon. We will be doing it again in April.
That is it for now. Looks like we have sunny skies and good times ahead. Please join us along the way.
Best wishes,
Elaine and Jennifer
P.S. Be sure to check out the Road Race Report. We are meeting tonight, 3/10, at Starbucks. Thanks for all the support!

The next business meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 1st
at the home of RSVP to Susan
Collins, 91 Pleasant Street.
Please RSVP to Susan at 617-698-8689.

Eve Nightingale - 617-696-5370 - e_nightingale@yahoo.com
Have you heard that we have a road race on June 10th? This is our largest fundraiser of the year. Please respond to me directly at e_nightingale@yahoo.com and let me know if you will be assisting on race day or prior to race day. All members who will be running in this event will need to volunteer for a task that will take place prior to the day of the race. While I am excited to be moving along smoothly, we need the assistance of all of our members for this event to run smoothly.
I would like to thank all of the members who have already stepped up to their volunteer commitment. Many members came to envelope stuffing on February 11th. The response was so great and everyone was so organized, people were saying good night at 8:30. Thanks to all who participated for their energy, time and assistance. The stuffing and mailing dates for this year were moved up so that the Road Race would have a leg up on the sponsorship (the money!) leaving more time for logistics as we get closer to the date of the race. We have many returning vendors and activities. The Toy Box has signed on to man an activity station for children and DJ SuzieQ will be making a return appearance. Both of these groups were favorites at last year's event. If any of you bump into Julie or Jay Ritchie, please thank them for their continued support of our event.
The next Road Race Meeting will be March 10th at my home, located at 93 Waldeck Rd. We will be discussing a script for making personal contact to sponsors of previous years for this event. We are asking for volunteers to take on names of sponsors to contact. This will be a task simplified by numbers. Each call will take only minutes from your day and will make all the difference to the many businesses that are looking to put a face on the Milton Road Race. I would like to ask all members to look around at all people within their families and business circles. Many members have come forward with successful leads for sponsorship. Our fundraising is well under way. We have had businesses express interest in sponsorship, and as of the typing of this letter, we have received $6000. This is very exciting! However, we are still a distance from our goal of $25,000. Without the success of this event, the MJWC cannot give the nearly $15,000 a year in scholarships and grant money back to the town of Milton. Please speak to us if you have any ideas for corporate matching or corporate sponsorship. There are so many businesses out there that would benefit from exposure in this exciting event. The best way to get these businesses involved is through a personal connection. We are also looking for families/businesses to sponsor water tables and purchase mile markers.
All assistance is welcome and appreciated. We look forward to working with each of you!

You (and your husbands!) won't want to miss our first ever Beer Tasting on Saturday, March 29th, at 7:30pm. Thanks to MJWC member and Sam Adams employee Laura Boynton, we will sample 5 beers, each paired with an appetizer. The beers that will be sampled are Boston Lager, White Ale (Spring Seasonal), Sam Adams Light, Twisted Tea (hard iced tea), and Irish Red. Experts from Sam Adams will be on hand to discuss the beers and offer suggestions of how to complement them with food at your next party. Be in the know on the latest in brew news, as we preview the newest Sam Adams beer -- Irish Red.
Tickets for the event are $20 per person, or $40 per couple. This event will be held in the parlor of the Women's Club, so the number of attendees will be limited due to the size of the room. RSVPs may be sent by e-mail to Brandy Purcell at brandypurcell@comcast.net.
