MJWC Trunk Show Will Feature ‘Soup Chick’ and Other Businesses

A woman who delivers her homemade soups to residents and another who offers “hip, organized and sane’’ accessories for busy moms are two of the women entrepreneurs who will be featured in a Milton Junior Woman’s Club trunk show at Fitness Unlimited on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 2-4:30 p.m. Admission is free.

The show is being put on by the MJWC in cooperation with the all-female fitness club to showcase women-run businesses. It is open to the public. More than 20 vendors are expected to be selling their wares, which will include bags, jewelry, monogrammed children’s clothing, painted glassware and more, according to Ariane Foster, one of the organizers.

Joyce White (www.thesoupchick.com) said the trunk show will give people a chance to taste her soups and sauces and decide if home delivery is for them. “They can see if they can incorporate it in their family lifestyle,’’ she said. Ms. White, a mother of three, started the business a month ago and will soon be cooking out of the Woman’s Club kitchen on Reedsdale Road. She has been a chef for 17 years, working in restaurants, catering and as a private chef. Chicken noodle and beef barley have been among customer favorites.

Carissa Steefel, another Milton mom, is planning to launch her MomWare.com web site by the end of the year and hopes the trunk show will introduce her products to more people. Ms. Steefel, the mother of 9-year-old twins, said she wanted to do something to help moms. “Moms are the unsung heroes of society and I thought why not start with Milton moms,’’ she said. She sells totes, but also items like pads that hang on doors and provide reminders to moms rushing out the door. Ms. Steefel, a former writer and actor, lived in California and New York before moving to Milton nearly three years ago.

Organizers said the event will also give people a chance to do some early Christmas shopping.
